A New Study Reveals “Music For Cats” Is Proven To Reduce Stress During Veterinary Visits
Stress is easy to cause in cats. They have a much stronger sense of hearing than we do, so imagine how they feel. Your cat doesn’t enjoy visiting the vet. Vet visits can be very stressful for cats. Seeing cats stressed out is no fun for anyone involved. Many will react out of fear. Louisiana State University studied cat behavior and tested out how music can put a cat at ease during vet visits. Also, the study looked closer at how cats behave during vet visits and what music might do this.
Veterinary medicine at LSU conducted the study, and I found the results to be quite interesting. I thought it would be a good idea to share it with you, cat lovers, too!
The study evaluated whether playing certain types of music at a veterinary clinic could calm a cat down. It was originally published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery.
A study was conducted in which cats were exposed to silence, classical music, and cat-specific music during a physical examination at the veterinarian. Therefore, they tested each cat two weeks later with a different type of music in the same manner.
Study researchers sought to determine whether playing cat-specific music in a veterinary clinical setting would lower cats’ stress scores (CSS).
How did the results turn out? Cat-specific music significantly decreased CSSs in cats when they were exposed to it.
Perhaps you are asking yourself, “What is cat music exactly?”
Well, I thought I would share a sample with you. Feel free to let your cat hear it, too, if they are in the room with you as you read this. They love it, too! This study will soon make the world aware that cats have their own music.
According to Smithsonian Magazine, you shouldn’t try to entertain your feline friend with Top 40 tunes at home. Domestic cats prefer “species-specific” music.
