Get To Know Felix And Bolt: The Huddersfield Station Cats
There is nothing average about Felix and Bolt. It’s true that they are pretty, but these kitties are born to work! Huddersfield railway station is located in Yorkshire, England, and is positioned alongside them. A beautiful long-haired tuxedo cat named Felix led the way, but young Bolt joined her last year.
Nine weeks old, when she arrived at the station, Felix was born on May 17, 2011. According to her Facebook page, she was raised by a loving family, but despite all the love she could have desired, she had a desire to be a working cat. She was named Felix by her new colleagues at the station because they thought she was a man. Following an initial trip to the vet, they decided to keep her name that she was already accustomed to and fond of after they confirmed her gender.
The moment Felix arrived at the station back in 2011, her presence was immediately admired and appreciated. All those who walked through the station each day began to pay attention to her and become her fans. After her Facebook page was created in July 2015 by commuter Mark Allan, she received international attention.
Aside from the fact that her high-vis vest designates her as “Senior Pest Controller,” it’s difficult not to find her adorable and photogenic. This cat had a book deal in the works within two years.
When she wasn’t busy being a star on the platform, she was clearly a star on the Internet.
She even had a cat flap made so she could easily cross the ticket barrier back and forth!
According to Andy Croughan, station manager of London Bridge station, this is what he had to say about the experience of working with writer Kate Moore, author of 2017’s Felix the Railway Cat.
