Russell Crowe Tells A Touching Story About Cinders, A Cat He Gifted To His Mom
This is a tale of Cinders, a kitten, and the Crowe family told by Russell Crowe through his Twitter page.
In his story, we could see how fate intervenes for a good purpose. Russell never bought the idea of having a cat around, but destiny decided otherwise.
He rescued a kitten in 2003 that he gave to his mother. The kitten, named Cinders after the movie he was filming at the time, became part of the family and lived with Crowe’s mom for 17 years. Sadly, Cinders passed away in 2020, and Crowe shared a heartfelt tribute to her on social media.
Before Cinders
Russel said in his tweets that his mother wished for a cat in early 2003, but, he was against the idea. His reason was that a cat would pursue the native birds visiting them in a place they had in the bush, or so he thought.
Russell’s mother, however, did not give up the idea of having a cat quickly. She kept on asking for a cat even in front of his boxing team that helped get him in shape for the movie Cinderella Man. Believing he has control, Russell said “No” as many times as his mother asked.
Of course, the team knew that Russell would lose the battle and waited for how it would happen.
How Russell Crowe found Cinders
Crowe took some of his boxing teammates inside the bush for a mountain bike ride. As he paused for a water break, he heard an unusual sound and decides to check it out.
He then saw a cardboard box on the side of the road in which he found a tiny kitten inside, barely alive. Crowe felt someone had abandoned it there since the place was far from a residential zone.
He decided to take her with him and give her to his mom, who had been asking for a cat. His mom was overjoyed to see the kitten and named her Cinders after Cinderella Man, the movie Crowe was working on.
Crowe said he felt it was the universe teaching him respect by getting what his mom requested.
The Life of Cinders with Crowe’s Mom
Cinders grew up under the care of Crowe’s mom to be a beautiful cat with a black coat and green eyes.
She was shy and wary of strangers, but she loved Crowe’s mom and followed her everywhere. The two paired greatly.
Even with Cinder’s aggression, she never scratched Crowe who wasn’t that close with her. Crowe considers it as gratitude for rescuing her.
The Death of Cinders and Crowe’s Tribute
Cinders lived a great life and died in June 2020, leaving Crowe and his mom heartbroken.
This made Crowe post a series of tweets telling the story of how he found Cinders and how much she meant to them.
He also shared some photos of Cinders throughout the years, showing her beauty and personality.
Further, he thanked his fans for their condolences and said that Cinders was “a great friend” who “will be missed”.
